タイの蝶図鑑

　仕事でタイに長期滞在され、退職後もタイにたびたび長期滞在して、同地の蝶を長らく研究されてきた当会会員の木村勇之助氏は、個人のものとしては世界有数のコレクションを保有しておられる。その標本の価値は何と言っても、ほとんどが同氏の採集したもので、データが極めて正確なことにある。経済発展著しいタイでは既に低地を中心に多くの森林が破壊され、姿を消した蝶も多い。木村氏のコレクションは、タイの蝶を研究する上で今後ますますその価値を高めていくに違いない。
　木村コレクションのデータをもとに、タイの蝶を俯瞰しようという取り組みが当会のメンバーで行われ、その最初の成果が上梓された。過去の記録を丁寧に当たったシノニミックリストは圧巻である。
　すべてのテキストに英語も併記されているので、海外の研究者にとっても有用この上ない資料となろう。

"The Butterflies of Thailand" (Part1) is published

Our society member, Mr. Kimura Yunosuke has been studying the butterfly fauna of Thailand for more than 40 years. He had stayed there many years on business and after his retirement he continued to visit for the research of butterflies. As a result, he made a huge collection of the butterflies in Thailand. His collection is one of the best ones on butterflies of Thailand. The great point of his collection is that almost all specimens had been caught by himself and therefore the collecting data is precise. As the result of economic growth, many forests especially lowland rainforests had been lost in these several decades in Thailand. His collection will be more and more important from now on because many species had already become extinct.

Recently the project to introduce his collection for the better understanding of the butterflies in Thailand has started by some of our society members. The first outcome is published last year. In this book, you can see many rare and interesting species based on Kimura's collection with precise collecting data. In addition, the synonimic list which covers almost all the important former references is just amazing.
All the text is written in English, so it enables for overseas researchers to access easily.
