チョコレート揚羽蝶
21世紀に入って20年近くが過ぎようとしている。2月上旬、老いも若きも、学童から大人まで、かの国の女性たちは、こぞってにわかショコラティエと化す。同国で年間に消費されるチョコレートの大半は、聖バレンタイン・デーの直前に販売され、さらに多くは作り手の秘密の意図を込められて姿を変えるのだ。
産み出された作品の中には、ときに珍品も混じる。東西文明の食文化融合が産んだ「泡沫芸術」作品かもしれない。かつて写実主義的な珍品が見られたこともあった。
今年また、直近の伝統を継承する三人の乙女たちの合作が、傑作 Papilio scelerisque となって、ある男に届いた。それを口に入れる前に、男は写真撮影を禁じえなかった。

Since the 21st century started, nearly two decades have passed. Early February today, many women in Japan--young and old, from schoolchildren to adults--become seasonal chocolatiers. A large proportion of chocolate consumed annually in the country is sold just before St. Valentine's Day, and many pieces are changed into other forms with the chocolatiers' secret intentions.
Rarities may be found among them sometimes. Such may be “ephemeral art” pieces conceived in the amalgamation of food cultures of both western and eastern civilizations. Once we saw a realistic fine work.
This year, three girls inheriting the recent tradition collaborated in making another masterpiece, Papilio scelerisque, and presented it to a man. Before putting it into his mouth, he could not help but photograph it.
